Laura Okmin: The Unrelenting
Named to Sports Illustrated's list of the most powerful, most influential and most outstanding women in sports right now—the game-changers who are speaking out, setting the bar and making a difference.
Once fearful of her second act, Laura Okmin has turned it into her favorite act. After 30 years of telling other people’s stories, Laura has focused on her own – still reporting from the sidelines, but broadening her playing field. People Laura has covered over the years has now turned into trusted clients. Her clients include Super Bowl head coaches, gold medal olympians and professional sports leagues. She specializes in coaching communication and leadership – becoming a more intentional, meaningful and authentic leader. Laura calls herself a BLIND SPOT coach, showing clients what they often don’t see. While doing all of this, Laura has spent over the last decade helping thousands of women succeed in the sports world through her company GALvanize. Laura remains a storyteller in work and in life whether it’s in a broadcast, a speaking engagement, or her own production company.
Over a decade ago, Laura wanted to create something she never had in three plus decades of navigating the sports industry – a network of women. GALvanize started with 20 women in a conference room to connecting over 5,000 women of every age and stage from teenage to 50’s. We take up space throughout the entire industry – in front of the camera, behind the camera, PR, marketing, agents, coaches, business, etc – GALvanize is for women who want to empower themselves – and each other.
Once comfortable only sharing other people’s journeys, at 40 years old, Laura stopped hiding behind everyone else’s story and started working on – then sharing – her own. She has spoken to and trained small, intimate groups including executive teams, leadership groups and NFL coaching staffs – to rooms of thousands at conferences and conventions. Her gift is, no matter the topic, making the large rooms FEEL like small ones. She doesn’t talk to the room – she changes the room by focusing on every attendee’s story as much as her own.
From Super Bowl Head Coaches to Olympians, business leaders, and women of all ages, Laura coaches authenticity – whether it’s on a podium, in a press conference, a locker room or a board room.
We're going to the SuperBowl!
GALvanize is credentialed for the 2023 Super Bowl. Laura is taking 5 magnificent women who will be covering the week leading up to the big game the way GALvanize covers everything: Showing off each person’s WHO not do. One week, on sports’ biggest stage, creating content profiling WHO people are, not what they do.
GALvanize: Girls Compete. Women Empower.
